今回は、すどう美術館 須藤一郎館長の「館長のひとりごと」を掲載します。
京都を楽しむ
５月２8日〈2024年〉、雨の中、小田原から新幹線ひかりに乗り京都へ向かいました。目的は宝塚市で仕事をしながら制作を続けている下千映子さんの個展が京都であり、それを見に行くためです。
下さんは以前は京都在住で、すどう美術館の銀座時代から個展、グループ展とお世話になってきた画家です。この4月には私の関わっている「小田原もあ」展にも遠いのに宝塚から見に来ていただいています。
午後12時過ぎ、京都駅に着きましたが雨は降り続いており、それも豪雨という感じです。それでも駅は人でいっぱい、外国の観光客がたくさんいました。
個展の会場は左京区の丸太町通りにあるギャラリー恵風で、京都駅からバスで30分ほどかかりました。もちろん雨でほとんど風景は見えませんでしたが、途中、三十三間堂やら祇園やら、懐かしい名前の停留所をたくさん通ってです。
画廊では下さんと画廊のオーナーの野村恵子さんが待ち受けてくれていました。ずいぶん前にもお伺いしたことがありますが、うれしいことに野村さんは私のことを覚えてくれていて会話が弾みました。
下さんの作品のテーマは「れ・い・ん・ど・ろつ・ぷ・す（雨だれ）」。紙や布を素材にアクリルを使った2種類のオブジェ風の作品と初めて見るモノクロの版画作品で、これまでと変化を遂げながら、下さんらしい優しさが見えてとても良かったです。
恵風では2階にもスペースがあり、ここでは六兵衛窯で知られる有名な陶芸の清水（きよみず）一家の若き三代目清水啓史さんの陶芸展が行われており、作品を見せていただくとともに、清水さんともしばらく話ができました。
夕刻になってやっと雨がやみ、画廊を出て下さんにビールのおいしい「キリンシティ新京極店」にご案内いただき、そのあと烏丸の京都ホテルに一泊しました。
翌日も午前中、下さんがいろいろなところを案内してくれました。モーニングは有名な「イノダコーヒー」の本店で。料理もですがやはりコーヒーおいしかったです。お客がたくさん並んで待っているところです。
それからいろいろ街を歩き、誓願寺や蛸薬師寺といった少し変わったお寺などを見て最後は平安神宮でした。いくつかの美しい宮舎からなっていて壮大、且つ美しい神宮ですね。そしてお昼過ぎ、もう一度恵風に寄り下作品を見、去りがたい気持ちを抑えて下さんや野村さんに別れを告げ、帰途つきました。
ひるがえって考えますと久しぶりの京都はごく一部の訪問でしたが、どの街もどの通りも素敵でまさに古都がそのまま残っている感じでした。

I enjoyed Kyoto.
On May 28 (2024), I took the Shinkansen Hikari from Odawara to Kyoto in the rain. The purpose of my visit was to see a solo exhibition in Kyoto of Chieko Shimo, who continues to work and create art in Takarazuka City.
Ms. Shimo is a painter who used to live in Kyoto and has been holding solo and group exhibitions since Gallery SUDOH’s Ginza days. She came from Takarazuka to see the “Odawara Moa” exhibition I am involved in this April, even though it is a far away place.
After 12:00 p.m., I arrived at Kyoto Station and it was still raining, and it was a downpour. Even so, the station was packed with people, including many foreign tourists.
The venue for the exhibition was Gallery Keifu on Marutamachi-dori in Sakyo-ku, about 30 minutes by bus from Kyoto Station. Of course, the rain obscured most of the scenery, but I passed many stops along the way with nostalgic names such as Sanjusangendo and Gion.
Ms. Shimo and Ms. Keiko Nomura, the owner, were waiting for me at the gallery. I had visited here a long time ago, but to my delight, Ms. Nomura remembered me and we had a nice conversation.
The theme of her work is “Re・i・n・do・rots・p・su (raindrops). I was very pleased to see her typical gentleness while changing from her previous works with two types of object-like works made of paper and cloth using acrylics and a black-and-white print work that I saw for the first time.
Keifu also has a space on the second floor, where there was an exhibition of ceramics by Keishi Shimizu, the third generation of the famous Kiyomizu family, known for the Rokubei kiln.
In the evening, the rain finally stopped, and after leaving the gallery, She took me to Kirin City Shinkyogoku, where they serve delicious beer, and we stayed overnight at the Kyoto Hotel in Karasuma.
The next day, She showed me around various places in the morning. We had breakfast at the famous “Inoda Coffee” main store. The coffee was as good as the food. There were many customers waiting in line.
After that, we walked around the city and visited some unusual temples such as Shoganji Temple and Takoyakushi Temple, and finally Heian Jingu Shrine. It is a grand and beautiful shrine with several beautiful palaces. After lunch, we stopped by Keifu once more to look at the works under the theme, and then, suppressing the urge to leave, we said goodbye to Ms. Shimo and Ms. Nomura before heading back home.
In retrospect, Kyoto was only a small part of my first visit in a long time, but every town and street was lovely, and I felt that the ancient capital was still intact.
Ms. Shimo, I will be back to see your work again, and I hope you will continue to hold your solo exhibitions in Kyoto.
