postcard blog

This is a blog that introduces contemporary art works that can be hung in your home.

I would like to share with you the joy of incorporating art into your daily life.

I hope that by looking at the artworks and artists, you will be able to encounter a special piece of art for yourself.

The “Odawara Moa” exhibition, for which I made a video last year, will be held again this year.

Each exhibition will have a specific theme, and we are looking forward to seeing the new works created by the 19 participating artists.

Craft? Art? Can you tell the difference?

The exhibition shows 13 years of artists inspiring and enhancing each other to the point where it is no longer possible to tell them apart.

About this Exhibition

〈In conjunction with the introduction, Ichiro Sudoh, director of the Gallery SUDOH, has written a letter of introduction to me, which I would like to post here.〉

The 23rd “Odawara Moa” Exhibition will be held again this year from March 11 (Sat) to 21 (Tue) at Odawara Municipal Odawara Station East Exit Library (Minaka Odawara 6th floor).

The “Odawara Moa” exhibition was created in 2010 as part of Odawara City’s “Mujinzou Project,” and the “mo” and “a” in “moa” stand for “craftsmanship” and “art.” The exhibition is a collaboration between Odawara craft artists of marquetry, woodwork, and metal casting, and contemporary artists related to the Gallery SUDOH.

During the 13 years since its establishment, craft artists have not been content with tradition, but have incorporated new aspects of contemporary art into their works, while art artists have followed the idea of “learning from the past,” incorporating scrap wood into their paintings and collaborating with metal casting to create new works of art. They have been creating new works of art by stimulating each other. It is as if the barriers between the two have been removed.

We would also like to mention that many workshops have been held by members of both organizations to promote interaction with the public.

This time, haiku will be included in the works, and the unifying theme has been decided as “Open(Hiraku)-mo∞a”. I am very curious to see how the project will develop.

At the beginning of the exhibition period, the public is invited to “Participate in the ‘Moa’ Workshop” and two workshops will be held: 1) Let’s taste “Moa” with seasonal haiku words (March 11) and 2) Make a 10 cm x 10 cm work of art (March 12). We are very much looking forward to these as well.

What kind of works, including those created in the workshops, will be displayed in the entire exhibition? We hope that many of you will come to see and enjoy them.

I have always expressed that art, including crafts, is “food for the soul” and that it is indispensable for the spiritual side of human beings, but books are also “food for the soul. Thanks to the courtesy of the Odawara Station East Exit Library, “Odawara Moa” will be held at the library, which will provide an opportunity for people who like books to become interested in art and for people who like art to become interested in books, creating a synergistic effect, which I believe is very wonderful.

To wrap up, I would like to share with you a poem of mine.
