[ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] Part29 “Dreams I want to achieve.”

This is a blog that introduces contemporary art works that can be hung in your home.
I would like to share with you the joy of incorporating art into your daily life.

I hope that by looking at the artworks and artists, you will be able to encounter a special piece of art for yourself.

This time, with the cooperation of Ichiro Sudoh, Director of Gallery SUDOH, I will be posting [ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] .

Dreams I want to achieve

Nowadays, Gallery SUDOH has a lot of exhibitions that focus on works in our collection. And I always distribute that notice quite extensively.

These include acquaintances and artists in faraway Hokkaido and Kyushu who are unable to come to the exhibition, university friends and colleagues from the company and other related people whom we rarely have a chance to meet, and others with whom it has become difficult to come and go.

I have attached a printed letter with the information DM to let you know that I am still going strong and continuing my art activities, and I have also included a short but informative note for each of you in the blank space of the letter.

This often results in unexpected visitors to our exhibitions, and even if they are unable to come, we are often relieved to receive letters from people who write about what they are up to.

By the way, I have recently become a little hesitant to send out such invitations.

Of course, younger people have no problem with this, but many of my old friends, including myself, are getting older and older.

Many of them are suffering from various health problems, and I wonder whether it is appropriate to send them exhibition invitations when they are in such a difficult situation.

In fact, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and am undergoing treatment. Normally, I would not inform you of such unnecessary information, but I have something to tell those who are doing their best after getting the disease.

I hope that people will be encouraged to know that we are working in spite of such circumstances.

Fortunately I still manage to see and hear. I also walk a lot. I do not take my illness too seriously.

What I continue to think about is that while it is important to continue the collection exhibition upon request, I would like to revive the “Messages from Young Artists” exhibition in support of young artists.
I would also like to continue the “Artist-in-Residence” program, in which invited artists from Japan and abroad , although this will be done after the Covid-19 problem has been resolved.
And one more dream is to organize exhibitions of the many artists who have been involved with Gallery SUDOH, and to divide them into groups and hold exhibitions.

As I have said elsewhere, my motto is “Though the road is far, it is the path I have chosen.

I hope to continue to move toward my dream as long as I have life.
