アート未来展の授賞式
先日の現展の受賞式に続き、7月8日の午後は同じく国立新美術館で開催されたアート未来展の授賞式に招かれて行ってまいりました。
正式には「国際公募アート未来展」で今回が第26回です。26回というと長いようですが、他の団体展と比べると新しい団体ということになります。
ここ数年はコロナ禍の関係で授賞式は行われませんでしたが、私はご縁をいただき、いつも授賞式とそのあとのレセプションにご招待をいただいています。
私がご招待をお受けするのは、この団体展には現展と同じく何の匂いもなく、作品全体が自由な空気に包まれていて気持ちがいいからで、事前に見せていただいた今回の作品もそれぞれが、私の期待を裏切りませんでした。
さらに私が評価させていただくのは、多くの団体が内に向かってしまっているのに、「国際公募」とあるように国内の作家だけでなく海外まで呼びかけ、まだ、アジアが多いですが、多数の海外作家の作品も展示されていることです。
もう一つ「未来コーナー」というスペースが設けられ、多くの小中学生の作品が展示されているのもとてもうれしいことだと思います。
さて、授賞式は内閣総理大臣賞をはじめとする大臣賞、東京都知事賞、都議会議長賞、アート未来準大賞から新人賞、奨励賞等々があり、1時間を超す長時間でした。面白いのは、他は賞状に賞金か賞品が付くのに、大臣賞や都知事賞などはやたら大きい賞状ばかりということです。なお、ここでもアート未来大賞が「該当なし」となっていました。賞が厳格に審査されているということですね。
授賞式の中でご指名があり4人の来賓者全員がお祝いのあいさつをいたしました。私はまず、受賞のお祝いを申しあげましたが、これは次へのきっかけであり、明日からまた新たな気持ちで制作に取り掛かり、いい作品を作ってほしいとの気持ちを伝えました。そして私の考えるいい作品の基準は、その作品をそばに掛け、あるいは置いて一生一緒に暮らせるかであり、色や形やテクニックでなく、その作家自身の生き方、美術に対する姿勢に共感が持てるかであり、そのためにはアート以外のこともたくさん経験し、いかに自分を豊かにするかが大事であると付け加えました。関連して私は作家自身が作品と申しており、人の目を意識するのではなく、自分が作りたいものを作り、その結果を人に見てもらうべきだとの持論を披露してしまいました。
終わってからのレセプションではおいしいフラン料理とワインをいただきながら、同じテーブルの来賓の方や会の幹部、出展者と歓談ができ、幸せな一夜になりました。

Award Ceremony for the Art Future Exhibition
Following the award ceremony of the current exhibition, I was invited to the award ceremony of the Art Future Exhibition held at the National Art Center, Tokyo on the afternoon of July 8.
Officially, this is the 26th International Open Call Art Future Exhibition, and although it may seem long, it is a newer organization compared to other group exhibitions.
For the past few years, the award ceremony has not been held due to the Covit-19, but I have been fortunate enough to be invited to the award ceremony and the reception that follows.
I accepted the invitation because, like the current exhibition, this group exhibition has no smell, and the entire work is filled with an air of freedom, which is pleasant.
What I appreciate even more is that while many organizations have turned inward, the “International Call for Entries” has invited not only domestic artists but also overseas, and although most of the exhibits are from Asia, many works by overseas artists are also on display.
I was also very happy to see the “Future Corner,” where many works by elementary and junior high school students were exhibited.
The award ceremony lasted over an hour and included the Prime Minister’s Award, the Governor of Tokyo Award, the Chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Award, the Art Mirai Semi-Grand Prize, the New Artist Award, the Encouragement Award, and others. It was interesting to note that the Minister’s Prize, the Governor’s Prize, and other prizes were all very large certificates, while the other prizes were accompanied by cash or prizes. The Art Future Grand Prize was also listed as “Not Applied ” here. This means that the awards are judged seriously.
During the award ceremony, all four guests were asked to give their congratulatory speeches. I first congratulated them on their awards and told them that this was a chance to move on to the next stage of their careers, and that I hoped they would start work again tomorrow with a renewed spirit and create good works of art. My criteria for a good work of art is whether or not I can live with it for the rest of my life, hanging it by my side or placing it in my home. To do so, it is important to experience many things other than art and to enrich oneself. I also mentioned that the artists themselves are the work of art, and that they should create what they wants to create and have others see the result, rather than being conscious of what others think.
At the reception after the event, we enjoyed delicious franc cuisine and wine while chatting with the guests at the same table, the executives of the association, and the exhibitors, and it was a happy evening.
