美術館には行くけど、ギャラリーには行ったことがない方、家に絵画や作品を掛けてみたいけど、どうしたらいいか分からない方に向けて、現代アートのお家での楽しみ方をご紹介しています。
今回は、すどう美術館須藤一郎館長の「館長のひとりごと」を掲載します。
小田原もあ展
私が住んでいる小田原で興味深い展覧会が、もう11年も続いています。
一見相容れないと思われる、小田原在の寄木、木工、鋳金などの伝統工芸の作家と、すどう美術館関係の現代アートの作家とのコラボ展なのです。
2010年に小田原市の「無尽蔵プロジェクト」の一つとして発足したもので、展覧会名は「小田原もあ」展と言い、ものづくりの「も」とアートの「あ」からとった名称です。
発足後、工芸作家は伝統に安住せず、現代アートの新しい面を作品の中に取り入れ、アートの作家は寄木の廃材を絵の中に使ったり、鋳金とのコラボの作品を作ったりとお互いに交流しあい、刺激しあって、新しい作品が作られてきました。
毎年、その展示が「すどう美術館」や「寄木ギャラリーツユキ」などで行われてきましたが、昨年の小田原もあ10周年アーカイブ展「10年の歩みとそれぞれの作家の今」から小田原市立の「小田原駅東口図書館」のご協力により、この図書館の多目的スペースで行われています。
本年（2022年）の「小田原もあ」展は3月26日から4月10日まで、統一テーマ「新しいストーリーの始まり」のもとに、17名が参加し行われましたが、いずれの作品も質が高く、そして、正に現代アートと工芸の作家が融合し、全作品がアートになっていて、統一テーマに相応しい展覧会になったと思いました。
もともと私は両者に垣根はなく、根元にある美についての思いは一緒であると考えていますが、それがこの展覧会ではっきりと証明されたのではないでしょうか。
因みに主催の名称は「ものづくり・デザイン・アート」、リーダーは柏木照之（鋳金）、朝比奈賢（現代アート）のお二人で、露木清勝さん（寄木）と私は顧問という名を与えられています。このたびは露木さんと私が講演を担当、露木さんは寄木を中心に木工の歴史を語り、私は現代アートについての話をしました。
なお、図書館でこの展覧会が行える意義はとても大きく、本の好きな人がアートに関心を持ち、アートを好む人も本に関心を寄せる機会となり、相乗効果を挙げられるのです。私は「アートは心のごはん」と言っていますが、まさに本も「心のごはん」なのですから…。
最後になりますが、「小田原もあ」の活動でもう一つ特筆したいのが、大人、子どもを含む市民との交流を図る目的でずっと行われてきた工芸作家、現代アート作家両者によって行われてきたワークショップがあります。
これからも、小田原東口図書館での「小田原もあ展」、そして、図書館内外でのワークショップの活動が、ずっと続けられていくことを私は強く期待しています。

For those of you who want to hang paintings and artworks in your home, but don’t know how to go about it.
Here are some tips on how to enjoy contemporary art at home.
This time, with the cooperation of Ichiro Sudo, Director of Gallery SUDOH, I will be posting [ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] .
“Odawara Moa Exhibition”
An interesting exhibition in Odawara, where I live, has been going on for 11 years now.
It is a collaborative exhibition of seemingly incompatible artists of traditional crafts in Odawara, such as Yosegi (marquetry), woodworking, and metal casting, and contemporary artists related to the Gallery SUDOH.
The exhibition was launched in 2010 as part of Odawara City’s “Mujinzou Project” and is called the “Odawara Moa” exhibition, a name taken from “mo” Monozukuri (manufacturing) and “a” (art).
Since its inception, craft artists have not been content with tradition, but have incorporated new aspects of contemporary art into their works, while art artists have used scrap wood from Yosegi in their paintings and collaborated with cast metal to create new works, interacting and stimulating each other.
Every year, the exhibition has been held at “Gallery SUDOH” and “Yosegi Gallery Tsuyuki,” etc. Since last year’s Odawara Moa 10th Anniversary Archive Exhibition “10 Years of Progress and Each Artist Today,” the exhibition has been held at the multi-purpose space of the Odawara Station East Exit Library in cooperation with the Odawara Municipal Government.
This year’s (2022) “Odawara Moa” exhibition was held from March 26 to April 10 under the unifying theme of “The Beginning of a New Story” with the participation of 17 artists.
I have always believed that there are no barriers between the two, and that they share the same underlying feelings about beauty, and I believe that this exhibition clearly proved that.
In case you are wondering, the name of the organizer is “Monozukuri, Design, Art” and the two leaders are Teruyuki Kashiwagi (cast metal) and Ken Asahina (contemporary art), while Kiyokatsu Tsuyuki (Yosegi) and I are given the name of advisors. On this occasion, Mr. Tsuyuki and I were in charge of lectures, with Mr. Tsuyuki speaking on the history of woodworking, focusing on Yosegi, and me on contemporary art.
The significance of having this exhibition at the library is great, as it provides an opportunity for people who like books to become interested in art, and for people who like art to become interested in books, creating a synergistic effect. I say, “Art is a meal for the soul,” and books are a “meal for the soul,” too.
Last but not least, one more activity of Odawara Moa that deserves special mention is the workshops conducted by both craft artists and contemporary artists, which have been held for a long time to promote interaction with the public, including adults and children.
I strongly hope that the “Odawara Moa Exhibition” at the Odawara East Exit Library and the workshop activities inside and outside the library will continue for years to come.
