　ものづくり

「何かを作る」ことを日本では「ものづくり」と表現します。

小田原には、鋳物、漆、寄木細工などの伝統工芸が受け継がれている。職人達は、伝統技術を継承しながら、新しい試みへと「ものづくり」を広げている姿勢が作品に現れている。

22回にも及ぶ「もあ展」の作家達から、「初めの年は伝統工芸と、現代アートの作品がバッっと分かれていたが、今ではお互いに影響しあい伝統工芸職人の作品か、現代アート作家の作品か分からないほど融合している作品が現れてきた。」という話を聞いた。

現代アート作家はというと、伝統工芸の技術や美しさ、歴史に思いを馳せていた。工芸品を作る中で出た廃材を材料にした作品もまたおもしろい。

In this report, I would like to introduce “The 22nd Odawara Moa Exhibition: The Beginning of a New Story,” which was held from March 26 to April 10, 2022.

Craftsmanship

In Japan, “making something” is expressed as “monozukuri.

Traditional crafts such as casting, lacquer, and marquetry have been handed down in Odawara. The craftspeople are expanding their “monozukuri” (craftsmanship) into new endeavors while carrying on the traditional techniques, and this attitude is evident in their works.

The artists of the 22 Moa Exhibitions have told me, ” In the early years, the traditional crafts and contemporary art were divided, but now there is a fusion of the two, where it is hard to tell whether the work is that of a traditional craftsman or a contemporary artist.”

Contemporary artists, on the other hand, were reminded of the techniques, beauty, and history of traditional crafts. Works made from scrap wood from the process of making crafts were also interesting.
