[ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] Part39 “Utilization of Artwork.”
This is a blog that introduces contemporary art works that can be hung in your home.
I would like to share with you the joy of incorporating art into your daily life.
I hope that by looking at the artworks and artists, you will be able to encounter a special piece of art for yourself.
This time, with the cooperation of Ichiro Sudoh, Director of Gallery SUDOH, I will be posting [ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] .
Utilization of Artwork
On a more personal note, I am the third of six siblings. I have two older sisters, two younger sisters, and a younger brother.
Fortunately, everyone has been in good health so far, and we have had several gatherings a year with our spouses, and not long ago we often went on trips.
However, when I heard that my 92-year-old eldest sister was ill and suffering from health problems, my brother and I went to my sister’s house to visit her for the first time in a long while.
My sister’s eldest son and his wife live on the second floor, and she occupies the first floor by herself. My sister was happy, moved with her impossible body, and entertained us. I was also able to talk with her eldest son.
I was surprised from the moment I entered the room to see that there were paintings hanging from the entrance to the hallway and even inside the room. Even in the bathroom. After I had finished, my eldest son showed me the second floor room, which also had pictures hanging in the same way, including on the walls of the staircase. They were not cramped, but hung in a way that was easy to see.
My sister used to know a famous printmaker and many of her works are related to the artist. Some of the works she bought at the exhibition at Gallery SUDOH.
When I visit other people’s homes, I am always curious to see if they have paintings and what kind of paintings they have, but I have never come across a place with such a rich exhibition as this one. I felt that they were truly enjoying “life with art”.
In addition, this sister has started writing haiku since she has been in the house a lot in Covit-19, and she has been writing good, honest haiku without being taught by anyone. On this day, I received more than a dozen of her recent haiku.
A picture is alive when it is used. In a related matter, I recall this use. During Gallery SUDOH’s time in Ginza, when a female staff member named Yumiko Doi held a wedding ceremony, she negotiated with the wedding hall to have a reception in which Gallery SUDOH’s works were hung on the walls.
The pictures were a delight, and I still remember with great fondness that it turned out to be a beautiful venue and a good reception.
By the way, Ms. Doi (new name, Mrs. Kimura), whose children have grown up, is again supporting the Gallery SUDOH in various ways.
On a side note, one more thing: when my daughter was getting married, we were asked for advice on gifts, and my wife’s idea was to ask six promising young painters to create works of art, which we used.
The bride and groom went around to each table at the reception and handed an artwork to each person instead of lighting a candle. The artists who created the artwork were delighted, and it was very well received by the party attendees.
Artwork can also be used in this way.
