blog

【Let’s try to hang the artwork in your home!】YouTube

This blog is for those who are interested in art and go to museums but have never been to a gallery, for those who want to hang paintings and artworks at home but don’t know how to do it, and for those who want to enjoy contemporary art at home.

In this article, I will tell you about hanging two of Yuko Sugimoto’s works, which I purchased from Chuwa Gallery before, in my house.

These two works are different from the usual framed works because they are not on paper or canvas, but rather a collage of wood. However, the fact that they are not in a conventional form is also an interesting aspect of this work.

You can watch the demonstration on YouTube.

As a side note

If it is not framed, it is recommended to check where the hanging hardware is attached when you purchase it.

These two items had hardware on the top. However, the “wine table” was too far away from the wall to hang on the wall, and it needed a long nail to tilt.

It is not good for the work to have too many long nails sticking out of the wall.

So, I consulted with the artist, Mr. Sugimoto, and he gave me permission to install the metal fittings in the back, so I could hang it without any nails visible and without any tilting.

The way the work looks is also important!

It depends on the conditions of the wall, but I personally think it is a better way to hang the work if you can’t see anything extra around it, such as nails, pins, or strings hanging from above.

The reason is that I can easily turn my attention only to the work.

When I’m at home, the feeling is different from looking at artworks in a museum or gallery.

While doing housework, studying, or talking with my family, I find myself looking at my work from time to time.

You don’t have to be conscious of looking at it to see it, it’s in the swooping and changing of your gaze rather than looking at it all the time.

You can naturally focus your attention on the work of art in one second or 0.1 seconds of eye movement.

When you hang your work, why don’t you try to hang it in a way that the nails and strings are not visible? I hope you will find this helpful.

When buying artworks at a gallery, especially if they are not framed, it is a good idea to ask the artist or gallery staff how you can hang them at home.
