ARTOY展
アートとトイ（おもちゃ）を結び付けたアートイ（ARTOY）展というちょっと変わった展覧会があり、もう19回続いています。
その幕開けは2004年5月、銀座すどう美術館においてでした。関わりのあるおもちゃ作りの何人かのアイデアで始まり、11名の参加で発足したものです。
当初はテーマを決めずそれぞれが思い思いの作品を出していたのですが、すぐ20名に参加者が増えたことにあわせ、来館者に意図が伝わりやすくするためにも、参加作家のモチベーションを挙げる面からもテーマがあった方がいいということになったようです。
それで３回目を迎える時に、会の代表中井秀樹さんから思いがけず私にそのテーマを出してほしいと言われたのです。あわてた私が出したテーマは「のぞく」でした。
4回ほど行われた後、すどう美術館の小田原移転に伴い、この展覧会は銀座2丁目の「メルサ」の中の展示室に移り続けられましたが、引き続き毎年のテーマ（以下お題といいます）は私に依頼があったのです。
時には電車に乗っていて広告など見てパッとひらめく時もありますが、私なりに毎回熟考し、お題を出させていただいてきました。初日、パーティなどありました時はご挨拶とともにお題を出した背景も説明したりしたものです。
数年前、中井さんが、私がダブって同じお題を出さないようにというご配慮で、それまでお出ししたお題の一覧表を送ってくださいました。少し長くなりますがご参考までに記載してみます。「のぞく」に続き「つなぐ」「無限」「ススム」「浮遊」「隙間」「希望」「存在」「記憶」「流れる」「影響」「響き」「絆」「愛」「架け橋」などで、あらためて考えてみるとずいぶん難しいお題が多かったですね。
皆さん四苦八苦して取り組んでくださってきたのだと思います。
さて、今回19回目のARTOY展は「メルサ」の建物閉鎖で神田神保町の文房堂ギャラリーに移っての開催です。コロナ禍で休みの年も入り久しぶりの展覧会でしたが、ご招待をいただき6月15日の初日に伺ってきました。
お出ししていたお題は「さわやか」です。
19人が出展されていて、1点、1点時間をかけて見せていただいたのですが、木を素材にカラクリを仕組んだ大きな作品があったり、アート主体の作家がおもちゃを取り入れた作品に挑戦したりなどさまざまで、大人も子どもも楽しめ、アートが身近に感ぜられます。そして、一人一人がすばらしいアイデアを発揮、どの作品もいろいろな形で「さわやか」が意識された面白い作品で感激でした。
代表ほか出展の皆さんにお会いできたのもうれしいことでした。
晴れ男と言われている私なのになんとこの日は雨降りでしたが、文字通りさわやかな気持ちで会場を後にすることができました。

ARTOY Exhibition
There is a rather unique exhibition called “ARTOY,” which combines art and toys, and has been held 19 times.
It started in May 2004 at Ginza Gallery SUDOH. It started with the idea of some toy makers who were involved in the project, and was inaugurated with the participation of 11 people.
In the beginning, each artist submitted his or her own work without a theme, but as the number of participants quickly grew to 20, it was decided that it would be better to have a theme in order to make it easier for visitors to understand the intentions and to motivate the participating artists.
So, when the third exhibition was to be held, Hideki Nakai, the representative of the association, unexpectedly asked me to come up with a theme for the exhibition. In my haste, I came up with the theme of ” Peek”.
After about four exhibitions, Gallery SUDOH moved to Odawara, and this exhibition was moved to the exhibition room in “Mersa” in Ginza 2-chome.
Sometimes I would see an advertisement on a train and get an idea, but each time I would give it a lot of thought and come up with a theme. On the first day, when there was a party, I would greet the guests and explain the background of the theme.
A few years ago, Mr. Nakai sent me a list of all the proposals he had submitted up to that point, as he did not want me to submit the same proposal over and over again. The list is a little long, but I will try to include it for your reference. Following “Peek” were ” Connect,” “Infinity,” “Proceed,” “Floating,” “Gap,” “Hope,” “Existence,” “Memory,” “Flow,” “Influence,” “Resonance,” “Bond,” “Love,” “Bridge,” and many others, which, when you think about it again, are quite difficult.
I believe that everyone has been struggling with these themes.
The 19th ARTOY exhibition was held at the Bumpodo Gallery in Kanda Jimbocho due to the closure of the Mersa building. It had been a long time since the last exhibition due to the Corona disaster, but I was invited and visited the first day of the exhibition on June 15.
The theme of the exhibition was “Refreshing”.
Nineteen artists exhibited, and I took time to see each one. There was a large work using wood as the material for a trick, and an artist who mainly focuses on art took on the challenge of incorporating toys into his work, making it enjoyable for both adults and children and making art feel familiar. Each artist had wonderful ideas, and I was impressed by the interesting works that were conscious of ” Refreshing” in various ways.
It was also a pleasure to meet the president and other exhibitors.
I am known as a man of sunshine, but to my surprise it was raining that day, but I was able to leave the venue feeling refreshed, literally.
