今回は、すどう美術館 須藤一郎館長の「館長のひとりごと」を掲載します。
世界経済事情
少々大げさなタイトルですね。これは大学の講義の科目名なのです。
本年のお正月、箱根の大学駅伝をテレビで見ていましたら、残念ながら最後の方でしたが国士舘大学の選手が一生懸命走っていました。
それで思い起こしたのです。私の古い略歴になりますが、1995年（59歳）から2年間、国士舘大学政経学部で非常勤講師を務めさせていただいたことです。
大学時代の友人がこの大学で教鞭をとっており、その関りで私に話が持ち込まれたのでした。当時私は長く勤めた第一生命から関連の投資顧問会社に出向、常任監査役でした。授業は土曜日ということでしたので、直接業務に支障はなく、会社への届け出もしたうえでお受けすることにしたのです。
大学には会社での経歴、講義ついての私の所信などを文書にして提出、審査も無事に通りました。
私は特に中学時代、良い先生に恵まれていた体験もあり、若いころは中学などでの教師になりたいとの夢をもっていました。いろいろな事情で叶いませんでしたが、大学という場にしろ、先生になれるのはとてもうれしいことでした。
もちろん美術に関する講義ではなく、与えられたテーマは1年目が標題の「世界経済事情」、2年目が「現代企業論」です。
世界経済事情では授業の狙いとして「世界の経済も日本の経済も目まぐるしく動いている。その中で生命保険会社を始めとする機関投資家や投資顧問会社などは、より良き資産の運用を目指して必死の努力を続けている。それら経済の動きや資産運用の実情を現場での体験をもとに具体的に講義する。これにより、生きた経済を見る目を養う一助なればと考えている。」と説明しております。
講義は12回に分け、それぞれテーマを決めて行い、13回目は試験でした。
出した試験問題は「日本の景気および株・金利・為替等のマーケットに関するあなたの現状認識と今後（1年ぐらいまで）の見通しについて理由を付して説明してください。」です。
2年目の現代企業論の方は「生命保険経営の課題と今後の展望」を主体に講義を進めました。
国士舘大学についての私のイメージは少しバンカラな大学でしたが、そんなことはなく、運動部の活動は活発でしたが、受講生は皆まじめな学生でしたね。
何人かの学生とは親密な触れ合いもでき、私の夢が叶った感じがしました。
それにしても残された資料や作成した教材を見るとこの2年間の講義のためにずいぶん勉強をしたことがわかりました。
あの時期は会社の仕事、家に帰れば自宅での美術館運営、それに毎月、俳句の雑誌にエッセイを頼まれていたり、博物館学芸員の資格を取るための通信教育を受講していたりとたいへんでした。二刀流ならず五刀流でしたね。

World Economic Situation
This is a somewhat exaggerated title. It is the name of a lecture course at a university.
On New Year’s Day this year, I watched the Hakone University Ekiden (relay race) on TV. The athletes of Kokushikan University were running very hard, but unfortunately, they were not ranked well.
As an old brief history of mine, I recalled that I was a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Political Economics and Management of Kokushikan University for two years starting in 1995 (at the age of 59).
A friend of mine from college was teaching at the university, and through this connection, I was approached by the company. At the time, I was on secondment from Dai-ichi Life Insurance, where I had worked for a long time, to a related investment advisory company, where I was a permanent auditor. Since the class was held on Saturdays, it did not interfere with my work directly, and I decided to accept the offer after notifying the company of my position.
I submitted to the university my background at the company and my position on lectures in writing, and the screening process was successful.
When I was young, I had a dream of becoming a teacher, especially in junior high school, because I was blessed with good teachers, especially in junior high school. For various reasons, this did not come true, but I was very happy to be able to become a teacher, even if it was at a university.
Of course, it was not a lecture on art, but the theme given was “World Economic Situation” in the first year and “Modern Business Theory” in the second year.
The aim of the class in the World Economic Situation is to explain that “Both the world economy and the Japanese economy are moving at a dizzying pace. Under such circumstances, life insurance companies, institutional investors, and investment companies are making frantic efforts to better manage their assets. This lecture will give a concrete account of these economic trends and the realities of asset management, based on actual experiences in the field. Through this, I hope to help students develop an eye for the real economy,” I explained.
The lecture was divided into 12 sessions, each with a specific theme, and the 13th session was an exam.
The exam question was “Please explain your current perception of the Japanese economy and markets, including stocks, interest rates, and currency exchange rates, and your outlook for the future (up to about one year), giving reasons.
In the second year, the Modern Enterprise Theory lectures focused on “Challenges and Future Prospects of Life Insurance Management”.
I had an image of Kokushikan University as being a bit rough around the edges, but that was not the case. The sports club was very active, but the students were all very diligent.
I was able to have close contact with some of the students and felt like my dream had come true.
Looking at the materials I had left behind and the teaching materials I had created, I realized that I had studied a great deal for these two years of lectures.
I had a lot going on during that period: work at the company, running the gallery at home, being asked to write an essay every month for a haiku magazine, and taking a correspondence course to qualify as a museum curator. It was not two swords, but five swords.
