今回は、すどう美術館 須藤一郎館長の「館長のひとりごと」を掲載します。
展覧会を見に
コロナの心配と連日の猛暑の中、ここのところ4日続けて外出をしました。
年寄りは外へ出るべきではないのかもしれませんが、気になる展覧会が続いていたのと、内にいてもなかなかやるべきことが進まないからで、「エイッ ままよ！ 何か起こればその時はその時。」と自分に気合を入れて出たのです。展覧会を見るのも仕事の一環ですから。
一日目は藤沢のobiギャラリー。数年前、横浜で「すどう美術館コレクション展」を開催いただいた小尾久美子さんが、本年、自宅につながる天保13年の古民家と敷地に新築した三角の現代的な空間二つをギャラリーとしてオープン、今回は田鎖幹夫展です。部屋に合わせてアクリルや和紙を使った1990年代の作品と油絵、蜜蝋画の新作が展示されていて、どちらも素敵でした。小尾、田鎖のお二人と情報交換もできました。
二日目は多摩美術大学美術館。渡辺眞弓学芸員に近況報告と23年度の「すどう美術館オリジナルカレンダー」作成に同美術館で撮影された写真の使用願書の提出などのうえ、展示作品を見せていただきました。
展覧会名は「そうぞうのマテリアル」で美術館のコレクションから、4つのマテリアル「水（みず）・木（き）・金（きんぞく）・土（つち）」にまつわる作品の展示です。テーマのそうぞうは創造と想像の二つの意味が込められています。
かなり見応えのある展示で、いつものことながら、この美術館の学芸員の人たちの並々ならぬ見識、アイデア、情熱に頭の下がる思いです。
三日目は相模原に移転したぎゃらりー二桜舎での3人による版画展。銅版、木版、リトグラフ、モノタイプと多彩ですが、それぞれ暑さを考慮してか、さわやかな感じの作品で、一服の清涼剤をいただいた印象を受けました。
オーナーの鷲澤佳子さんも長いお付き合いですが、特に出展作家の庄司光里さん、伊藤あずささんはいろいろな形で、すどう美術館にずっと出展いただいてきた方で、5月の亡妻の追悼展にも参加いただいています。そのお礼も申しあげることができました。
さて四日目は横浜のギャラリー パリでの松山修平個展。松山さんは東京生まれですが、1976年、イタリア留学以来ミラノに住み、「SHIN-ON」（心音）をテーマに掲げ、自然、宇宙、人間の心奥を追求、精神性の高い抽象作品を世界各地で発表し続けています。いつからか知り合いになり、夏、日本で展覧会をする折にはよくすどう美術館に訪ねて来られています。
今回も感動的な作品が見られるとともに、ご本人と久しぶりに話ができ、イタリアの美術事情などもお聞きすることができました。
ひるがえって考えると、なんと素晴らしい4日間だったのでしょうか。

展覧会の楽しさ
杉本裕子さんの展覧会を見てきました。
昨年の同じ時期、銀座にある中和ギャラリー（日本橋に移転）で開催された杉本さんの個展で作品を２点購入しました。
その時の楽しさについて今回はお伝えします。
展示作品は、ユーモアがあり見ていて楽しくなる作品が多い中、気持ちを揺さぶられるような鋭い作品もありました。
作品を見にいく開催日まで指折り数えワクワクします。「どんな作品があるのかな〜」
会場で作品を前にすると、気持ちの良い裏切りがあり、想像していた感じと違う作品に「あ〜来てよかった〜」
気に入った作品が購入できる価格だったので、と言うより杉本さんの値段設定は誰もが気兼ねなく気に入ったら購入できる価格になっています。
思わず2点購入してしまう。
我が家にお嫁入りした作品は、キッチンでお湯を沸かしながら、料理を作りながら、洗濯物を畳みながら、毎日楽しんでいます！（家事ばかりですね）
始めは階段を上がった廊下に掛けていました。
今はキッチンに掛けています。
展覧会の楽しさをお家に繋げてずーっと楽しむことが、作品購入の良さです。

To see the exhibition
With the COVIT-19 worries and the daily heat wave, I have been out of the house for the last four days in a row.
Perhaps old people should not go out, but it was because there were a series of exhibitions that caught my attention and it was difficult to get things done when I was inside.
“Aha, no time! If something happens, I’ll take my chances.” I braced myself and left.
It’s part of my job to look at exhibitions.
The first day was at the obi Gallery in Fujisawa. Kumiko obi, who held the “Gallery SUDOH Collection Exhibition” in Yokohama a few years ago, opened two contemporary triangular spaces as galleries this year: an old house built in 1838 connected to her home and a newly constructed triangular space on the site.
This time it is the Mikio Tagusari exhibition.
There were works from the 1990s using acrylics and Japanese paper to match the room, as well as new oil and beeswax paintings, both of which were wonderful. I also had the opportunity to exchange information with Obi and Tagusari.
The second day was spent at the Tama Art University Museum, where the participants reported to curator Mayumi Watanabe on their recent activities, submitted an application to use photographs taken at the museum for the 2023 “Gallery SUDOH Original Calendar,” and viewed the exhibited works.
The title of the exhibition is “Materials of SOUZOU,” and it features works from the museum’s collection related to the four materials: water, wood, metal, and ground.
The theme SOUZOU has two meanings: creation and imagination.
It was quite a spectacular exhibit, and as always, I was impressed by the extraordinary insight, ideas, and passion of the museum’s curators.
The third day was an exhibition of prints by three artists at Gallery Niohsya, which has moved to Sagamihara.
The works were varied, including copperplate, woodcut, lithograph, and monotype, but each had a refreshing feel, perhaps in consideration of the hot weather, and gave the impression of a breath of fresh air.
The owner, Yoshiko Washizawa, has been a longtime friend, especially exhibiting artists Misato Shoji and Azusa Ito, who have been exhibiting at the Gallery SUDOH in various ways, and also participated in the memorial exhibition for my late wife in May.
I was also able to thank them for that.
Now on the fourth day, Shuhei Matsuyama’s solo exhibition at Gallery Paris in Yokohama.
Matsuyama was born in Tokyo, but has lived in Milan since studying in Italy in 1976. Under the theme of “Shin-on” (heartbeat), he has pursued nature, the universe, and the depths of the human mind, and continues to exhibit his highly spiritual abstract works around the world.
We have known each other for some time, and he often visits the Gallery SUDOH when he has exhibitions in Japan in the summer.
In addition to seeing impressive works of art, we were able to talk with the artist himself for the first time in a long while and hear about the state of art in Italy.
In retrospect, what a wonderful four days it was.

The joy of exhibitions
I saw an exhibition by Yuko Sugimoto.
At the same time last year, I purchased two of Yuko Sugimoto’s works at her solo exhibition held at Chuwa Gallery in Ginza (relocated to Nihonbashi).
I will tell you about the fun I had at that time.
While many of the exhibited works were humorous and fun to look at, there were also some sharp works that shook one’s feelings.
I am excited to count down my fingers until the day of the exhibition to see the works. “I wonder what kind of works there will be.”
When I saw the work in front of me at the venue, I was pleasantly betrayed, and the work was different from what I had imagined, making me say, “Oh, I’m so glad I came!”
I would say that it was a price at which I could purchase the pieces I liked, and Sugimoto’s pricing is such that anyone can purchase them if they like them without any hesitation.
I can’t help but buy two items.
The pieces that have come into our home are enjoyed every day in the kitchen, while boiling water, cooking, and folding laundry! (It’s all housework, isn’t it?)
At first it hung in the hallway at the top of the stairs.
Now it hangs in the kitchen.
