[ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] Part27 “Luxury is nice.”
I am happy if getting to know the artwork and the artist will lead you to an encounter with a special piece of art for you.
I hope to convey to you the pleasure of decorating your home with contemporary art and incorporating art into your daily life.
This time, with the cooperation of Ichiro Sudoh, Director of Gallery SUDOH, I will be posting [ Gallery SUDOH director’s monologue ] .
Luxury is nice.
The seventh exhibition of works from the Gallery SUDOH collection, which began on September 18 (Sun.) (2022) and was held at Gallery ZEN in Hadano City, was successfully completed on September 24 (Sat.).
During the exhibition, we were threatened twice by typhoons, and I thought my divine powers as a “man of sunshine” had disappeared.
I was extremely fortunate that many people were able to visit the exhibition on the 19th, when I gave an explanation of my work and Master Shirara told a rakugo story, and on the other days, which were not affected by heavy rain.
The forecast was for the trains to stop, but it did not rain on the final day, and the sky was blue by the time the works were taken out in the evening, which was said to be the worst part of the day.
It appears that I will be able to be a “sunny man” a little longer.
Since I visited the gallery every day during the “Zen” exhibition, I spent the day after the exhibition ended, the 25th, doing laundry and shopping for food, which had become scarce, and otherwise resting. Today, the 26th, I went to the city of Odawara.
I had to pay some bills and visit galleries, but now that I had settled down, the main thing I wanted to do was, unusually, to eat something delicious.
When I am out and about in Tokyo and other places, I take the proper precautions and stop by restaurants in department stores, but due to time constraints, I also use restaurants such as Yoshinoya, which is “fast, inexpensive, and delicious. I am sorry to say that I often use Yoshinoya, but I learned that Kazuo Inamori, the founder of Kyocera Corporation who passed away in August and was called the “God of Management,” was a loyal customer of Yoshinoya.
So I can now mention the name “Yoshinoya” with a little levity these days, but today, to my surprise, I went for the famous Unagi (eel) restaurant in Odawara.
However, when I arrived at the restaurant a little after 1:00 p.m., it was full of customers and there were many people waiting to get in, so there was no room. In tears, I gave up and headed to my second choice, Kaisen Teahouse, for the next time.
Again, there were many customers and I had to wait a long time, but I gave up and sat down, had some good food and a few good drinks during the day, and went home satisfied.
But still, everyone in the world is very extravagant.
Having experienced World War II in the past, I was raised under the wartime motto “luxury is the enemy. But even from today’s experience, luxury is not the enemy, and I have come home with a strong feeling that luxury is wonderful.
